Increasing the GRADUATION rate in AMERICA

Programs

Expanding Your Horizons

20/20 Inner Vision Foundation recognized the need for more programs that enable visually impaired and blind students to succeed in life and developed a program, which is the first of kind in the nation.  The purpose of the Expanding Your Horizons Leadership Camp is to encourage inclusion of visually impaired and blind students beginning with their families.  The focus of the program is to assist visually impaired and blind students to succeed in life by equipping them with a full range of tools to gain self-esteem, self-confidence, physical fitness, communications, teamwork, life skills and social skills.

20/20 Inner Vision designed all activities at the Leadership Camp to stress independence, the importance of education, and to encourage a normal family environment so that visually impaired and blind youth are empowered to reach their full potential.  Today over 74% of all visually impaired and blind adults are unemployed or under employed.  At the Expanding Your Horizons Leadership Camp, we stress the importance and value of higher graduation rates, college attainment, and future employment.

We believe this project will play a major role to help shape the future of so many visually impaired and blind students and their families.  It is our goal to break the cycle in America of so many visually impaired and blind adults underachieving and settling in mediocrity.

What makes this program so unique is the constant follow-up with participants and their families to help encourage the participation of their visually impaired or blind student in normal family actives.  The success of Expanding Your Horizons has made it an annual event in Indiana with plans to expand into other States.

 Stick to School Website

www.sticktoschool.com is the education initiative of the 20/20 Inner Vision Foundation.  The foundation and Purdue University collaborated to develop this website funded by the generosity of Associated Builders and Contractors of America.

The mission of www.sticktoschool.com is to increase America’s high school graduation rates.  The website provides a multitude of resources in an entertaining format that was conceived to engage young people in an educational journey that will not only inform them about the value of a formal high school/college education but also motivate them to have a high degree of self worth.

Through a combination of elements including Opus City and Stick to School: The game.  In these two appealing video games, created by Purdue, students face challenges and decisions as they explore numerous potential journeys through life.

The games are supported by online mentoring; streaming videos which educate students a variety of careers; downloadable lessons which give students knowledge they need to make intelligent career decisions; a career explorer which provides short explanations of more than 500 jobs arranged conveniently into areas of study; and stories posted by visitors who are willing to share their positive experiences.

www.sticktoschool.com praised by educators, politicians and business leaders alike as a one of a kind sight, which is much needed and long overdue.  Despite this overwhelmingly positive response to the launch to the www.sticktoschool.com, we realize that the site is still in its infancy.

Interactive Website for Visually Impaired and Blind Youth/Adults & Their Families

20/20 Inner Vision, Inc. plans to develop an interactive website www.2020innervision.org for visually impaired and blind youth/adults and their families to encourage and support academic and vocational success.  The website will be the first of its kind to feature chat rooms for students, parents and siblings, success stories from visually impaired  and blind role models, career path opportunities provided by visually impaired and blind employees/employers, as well as employer job postings for visually impaired and blind individuals.  There will be a feature on the website for parents that provide useful tips on how to raise a blind child, resources for educational scholarship opportunities and ideas for social and recreational activities for families with visually impaired and blind children.
